“crystalizations”
These pieces began as recordings of my voice. On a small hand-held cassette recorder I entered personal reflections in a type of electronic diary. Compiling seven cassettes in all, I unwound the tapes, removing them from their plastic housings. The format of the final pieces was created by weaving dried blades of grass as warp; the recorded cassette tape as weft. Forming a woven square mat of grass and tape the weaving were submerged in a bath of mineral infused water. Left for many months the dissolved minerals slowly reconfigured into the faceted crystals now visible, my voice subsumed underneath.
